Structural engineering practice

At Conscious Engineering Design we are passionate about structural engineering. We believe it isn’t just an academic exercise in delivering on detailed designs, but also a creative and imaginative discipline with the power to inspire and influence. The application of science, invention, and innovation to realise the vision of our clients and architects, gives us enormous satisfaction.

We are excited about creating engineering solutions that are elegant yet robust. Serving the architecture is fundamental in the design process, but we can bring much more to the table, including the ability to stimulate design concepts, optimise the construction process, and even challenge the brief.

The application of non-traditional materials, carbon-neutral green technologies, and new construction methods in architecture is essential in the modern built environment, but the preservation and care of older structures and of our built heritage is an equally valuable part of our experience.

We believe that all our clients deserve the same level of service, no matter the size or complexity of the project. In our philosophy, early partnership with the design team is essential to developing the best results, and this is where we add critical value. Engagement with the client at the initial stages of the design process enables investment in the engineering as well as the architecture, which is always mutually beneficial. Our simple aim is to deliver quality, design confidence, and a satisfied customer.

Allan Gordon Wiseman

BEng(Hons) CEng MIStructE
Chartered Structural Engineer
Director

I firmly believe that the traditional image of structural engineering needs to be modernised, enlivened, and brought up to date.

From a very young age I would spend happy hours sketching, drawing, designing, and inventing things with my father, who had a love for his profession as a precision engineer. For as long as I can remember I was fascinated with science and technology, so becoming an engineer was a natural step for me. Lateral thinking skills and resourceful solutions to engineering problems are things that I have inherited, resulting in my core belief that there is nothing that cannot be designed.

My greatest strength and joy is problem solving, drawing on nearly 40 years' experience in civil and structural engineering. This is a valuable gift when difficult issues demand simple solutions.

Music and art have always been an essential part of my life too. I am an accomplished guitar player, and had a brief career as a writer and musician in the early 90s and I still enjoy playing in a band.
